Kimnor

Kimnor is a figure briefly mentioned in the Book of Mormon as the father of Akish. The historical account notes that Kimnor’s role is linked to the narrative of Jaredite secret combinations, a focal theme in the collapse of the Jaredite civilization. Kimnor’s significance is derived primarily through his connection to his son Akish, who played a pivotal part in a plot of regicide and political upheaval. Akish was introduced to Jaredite secret oaths and covenants - which originated from the oldest records held by the people - through his desire to marry Jared the second’s daughter. The scriptural record indicates that the daughter of Jared advised her father to summon Akish with the intent to use her allure to entice Akish to agree to a sinister pact. In this pact, Akish was to murder her grandfather, King Omer, in exchange for her hand in marriage (Ether 8:10). While the scriptural text does not extend beyond this singular reference, Kimnor’s legacy is overshadowed by the actions of his son, which led to an era of great wickedness and secret plots that eventually contributed to the downfall of their civilization.
