Lévi¹

Levi, a Book of Mormon figure mentioned briefly in the book of Ether, was the son of the wicked King Kim and reigned as king himself. His lineage and kingship are chronicled within a genealogical record of Jaredite rulers. His father, Kim, fell out of favor with the Lord and was deposed and imprisoned by his own brother, leading Levi to be born into captivity. Despite these circumstances, Levi ascended to the throne, ruling for forty-two years after overthrowing the reigning monarch and restoring the kingdom (Ether 1:20-21; 10:13-17).

Levi’s reign marked a period of righteousness and prosperity for his people, contrasting his father’s unrighteous rule. After his righteous leadership, his son Corom succeeded him, continuing the pattern of just governance. Levi’s story exemplifies the themes of resilience and righteousness in the Book of Mormon, demonstrating that virtuous leadership can emerge even after times of wickedness and adversity.
