Nimrah

Nimrah was a son of Akish, the Jaredite king known for his treacherous rise to power amid the political turmoil that plagued the Jaredite nation. Akish had gained the throne through conspiracy and murder, including the assassination of a previous king, Omer’s rival Jared, and later his own son, leading to internal conflict within the royal household. Upon the death of his unnamed brother, who perished from starvation while imprisoned by their father’s command, Nimrah became incensed at the patricidal act (Ether 9:8).

Motivated by anger and possibly fear for his own safety, Nimrah gathered a small group of like-minded men and took flight from his father’s domain. He sought refuge with Omer, the deposed king, joining those who recognized Omer’s legitimate claim to the throne (Ether 9:9). The historical record provided does not elucidate further on Nimrah’s subsequent actions or his fate during the later civil strife that ravaged the Jaredite civilization and led to its downfall, including the battle that left only thirty survivors, among whom were those who had sided with Omer (Ether 9:12). Nimrah’s decision to align with Omer, however, implies his disapproval of the unethical and murderous practices of his father, Akish.
