Shiblom

Shiblom was a Nephite commander distinguished by his leadership during the catastrophic final conflict that marked the end of Nephite civilization. He is noted for his tragic fall alongside his contingent of ten thousand soldiers in the battle that occurred in the land of Cumorah. This battle transpired in A.D. 385, a date which signifies one of the darkest periods in Nephite history as the nation succumbed to the Lamanite forces. The record of Shiblom and his troops’ deaths serves as a somber testament to the fierce and desperate nature of the combat which ensued during the terminal stage of Nephite-Lamanite warfare. As part of the massive defensive effort orchestrated by the Nephite leader Mormon, Shiblom’s considerable military responsibility and the loss of his force are briefly mentioned in the text, illustrating the scale of the calamity that befell the Nephite nation (Mormon 6:14).
