Zédécias²

Zedekiah was one of the twelve disciples chosen by Jesus Christ during His visitation to the inhabitants of the Promised Land following His resurrection. As a disciple, Zedekiah was present at significant teachings and miracles performed by the Savior. When Jesus taught the gathered multitudes the principles that would govern His Church, Zedekiah was there among the other disciples, receiving the same instructions and blessings (3 Nephi 12:1). His calling was a testimony of Christ’s personal ministry to the people in the Promised Land, paralleling the organization of the Church in the Old World.

Alongside his fellow disciples, Zedekiah was endowed with power and authority by Jesus Christ to baptize and to bestow the Holy Ghost upon the believers (3 Nephi 11:19-22). This priesthood authority was a key component in establishing the Lord’s Church and conducting His ordinances. The Savior also gave Zedekiah and the other eleven disciples the power to heal the sick and perform miracles in His name (3 Nephi 19:4), further signifying their divine commission. Zedekiah’s ministry thus played a crucial role in the establishment of Christ’s doctrine and the perpetuation of faith among the Nephite people as they sought to follow the teachings and example of Jesus Christ.
