Aminadi

Aminadi was a Nephite holy man and descendant of Nephi, the son of Lehi, who journeyed from Jerusalem to the Promised Land according to the narrative of the Book of Mormon. Notable in Nephite history, Aminadi stands recognized for a singular spiritual event wherein he interpreted “the writing which was upon the wall of the temple, which was written by the finger of God” (Alma 10:2-3). The lack of additional context or detail in the record regarding Aminadi’s life and the nature of the message he interpreted suggests that his prophetic act was of significant import, drawing a parallel with the biblical prophet Daniel who similarly interpreted writing from the hand of God.

Aminadi’s lineage is cited as an exemplification of the righteous heritage to which Amulek, a later prominent missionary companion of Alma the Younger, belonged. Amulek identifies Aminadi as his direct ancestor through his father, Giddonah, and grandfather, Ishmael. Aminadi’s interpretive act in the temple is the defining moment of his mention in the Nephite record, implying his role as an inspired spiritual leader of his time. Further, his connection to the founding figures of Nephite civilization, such as Nephi, links him to the prophetic tradition established early in the account of the people descended from Lehi. Aminadi’s contribution to this lineage highlights the enduring faith and revelatory experiences that characterized the Nephite leaders across generations.
