Terre de David

The Land of David, a Nephite territory mentioned in the Book of Mormon, is noted to have been situated on the west coast of the land southward. It is referenced as a location through which Mormon and his Nephite forces passed during a tactical retreat in the face of aggressive Lamanite military advances around A.D. 327. The Nephites, facing dire circumstances and significant losses in the land of Zarahemla, were compelled to withdraw from one area to another, through the Land of David, eventually reaching the city of Angola, and subsequently the lands of Joshua (Mormon 2:3-6). This chain of events marks Mormon’s initial experiences as a military leader, at a time when the Nephite nation was under increasing pressure and nearing its ultimate downfall. The text does not offer further detail about the Land of David, leaving its exact place in Nephite geography and history largely to conjecture beyond its brief mention as a landmark during this military maneuver.
