Moab

Moab, as described in the Book of Mormon, is referenced in a prophecy concerning the gathering of Israel in the last days. In the prophecy made by Isaiah and reiterated by Nephi, it is foretold that Judah and Ephraim would overcome their enemies, including Moab, as part of a united effort to reclaim their inheritance. “They shall lay their hand upon Edom and Moab; and the children of Ammon shall obey them” (2 Nephi 21:14). This passage is part of a broader narration regarding the restoration of the house of Israel and the establishment of peace among the nations. While the exact location of Moab in relation to the events of the Book of Mormon narrative is not detailed, the original Moab was a region located east of the Dead Sea and shared kinship and a common Semitic tongue with the peoples of ancient Israel. The use of the name Moab in the Book of Mormon is symbolic and evocative, tying back to the spiritual heritage and prophecies of the Old World, as well as to the destiny of the house of Israel as seen through Nephi’s prophetic perspective.
