Moriantum

Moriantum was a Nephite area that garners mention near the conclusion of Nephite history, during a time of intense wickedness and societal collapse. In a heartfelt and distressing letter from Mormon to his son Moroni, the grim actions of certain Nephites residing in Moriantum are laid bare. The Nephites in this locale captured Lamanite women and committed heinous acts against them: they violated their chastity and virtue, tortured them until death, and subsequently engaged in cannibalistic practices as a display of false bravado. This egregious behavior illustrated the utter depravity of the Nephite people in their final days and reflected a society that had strayed far from its moral compass and divine teachings. Mormon, who led the Nephites both as a military commander and spiritual leader, expressed deep sorrow and condemnation for these acts. His reflections on the events occurring in Moriantum underscored the severity of the wickedness that had overtaken his people, as he lamented the cataclysmic moral downfall of the once-righteous Nephite nation (Moroni 9:9-10).
