Pathros

Pathros is the name given in the Book of Mormon to a region identified as part of Upper Egypt. The term is derived from the Hebrew form of an Egyptian name which translates to “the South land.” The mention of Pathros in the Book of Mormon occurs in a prophecy concerning the Lord’s future gathering of the remnants of Israel from various regions of the world. According to this prophecy, the Lord will extend His hand to recover His people from several lands, including Pathros, which signifies the retrieval of individuals from Upper Egypt (2 Nephi 21:11). This passage parallels biblical references to Pathros and connects the narrative to the broader context of Israelite history and the dispersion of the tribes. Pathros, being a part of Egypt, was known as a place of ancient civilization, marked by its distinct geographic location along the Nile River and its cultural and historical significance within the context of the Near East.
